Wireless Battery Reclamation and Reconditioning

     Many of the wireless carriers in North America have done product rollouts at an extraordinary speed.  The complexity of provisioning the hardware and customer terminals, requires the carrier to originate large numbers of new, OEM wireless handsets. Many of these handsets end up with a short life in the field. This creates a large number of handsets, which have not been in the field for any great duration of time.  Unfortunately, this product no longer looks new and must be remanufactured.  Traditionally, the carriers have elected to send the handset to an OEM, vendor approved, remanufacturer.   Generally, this vendor, tests the cell phone, replaces plastics, replaces the charger and replaces the battery with a new one.

• The battery is a comparatively expensive product.
• Lithium Ion batteries produce extraordinary amounts of power and will provide hundreds of recharges, without degrading.
• Often, the OEM vendor does not redeploy these batteries. In fact, the vendor generally charges $1 or $2 to properly dispose of the batteries.
• Many times, the life of the battery has been diminished by only 10 to 15 percent. More importantly, the ability to hold a charge has not been grossly affected.  This makes the battery highly redeployable.
• It is only logical that the OEM vendor would want to receive $1 or $2 for disposal and an additional $20 to $30 for a new OEM battery, requiring no service.

     The proprietary system we have developed to grade, clean, refinish, package and redeploy involves a process that we perfected while fulfilling a carrier's need for 6000 batteries per week.  To provision 6000 usable batteries per week, it was necessary to study in detail every aspect of battery construction and use patterns.

     With this in mind, it is our goal to redeploy 70% or more of the batteries received from the carrier. This processing could allow savings to the carrier, in the millions of dollars per year, subject to the quantity of units being deployed.

     In some cases, carriers would like to recover even a higher ratio of batteries for redeployment.  This process is called secondary surfacing and involves our proprietary system to mechanically re-face each "A" battery surface by air media, or surface coating.

     When reviewed on a yearly basis, processing only 500 units per business day at the 70% recovery rate, the projected carrier savings would be over $1.5 million per year.  Most carrier deployment requirements would easily exceed this number of units per day, expanding both demand and carrier savings.

     All batteries approved will be expected to meet the aesthetic requirements of the grade 85+, using a 100-point scale.   An 85 would be a fully processed battery near OEM condition.  Case will be crisp, logo clear, neither too shiny nor dull to match handsets.  Any light scratching would be detectable only under close inspection and not outwardly noticeable to the ordinary end user.

• After the resurfacing phase has been completed, some carriers may request additional testing to the batteries.
• This testing acts as a baseline guard to assure overall battery performance.
• After the process and test cycle, the batteries are packaged to the carrier's desire.
• Detailed white sheets are available upon request.
